Car Roller Sheet

This product is to help people getting in and out of cars. The Sheet has pulling handles on both sides and a large flat joining seam. Make sure the joining seam is on the underside, near the edge of the seat. This is to prevent the user from sitting on the join. Place the Car Roller Sheet on either the front or back car seat. Position it so the Sheet covers the area you want the patient to be sitting on for the journey. When in position, the Sheet should hang over the side of the seat, with the pulling handles running parallel across the seat from the open door into the car.

Let the patient sit down facing towards the open door. Their bottom may be on the edge of the seat, so it may be beneficial to stand in front of them to prevent them sliding forward out of the car. With good upper arm muscles, they may be able to push themselves back into the car and even turn around to place their feet into the footwell.

If they need assistance, the helper can either push the patient’s knees or hips to push them into the car seat, then lift up their feet and put them into the footwell. When doing this, the patient will then be facing the front. If the helper cannot push on the legs or hips, it is possible to walk around to the other side of the car and pull on the handles, so the patient is pulled back into the car.

After the patient has been turned to face the front, the Car Roller Sheet will be twisted on both sides of the patient, but it should be ‘wrinkle free’ under their bottom. Once the patient is in position, do up the car seat belt. At the end of the journey, simply undo the seat belt, lift the patient’s legs out of the car so they will be facing the door. Get the patient to lean forward, and then pull on the handles to get the patient to the edge of the seat.

If the patient is heavy, it may be beneficial for the carer to crouch down so they can pull without bending. Some patients may be able to pull with their arms to get to the edge of the car seat. When the patient is on the edge of the seat, it is possible to transfer a weight bearing patient by holding the top and the bottom parts of the sheet together.

The Car Roller Sheet has a moisture repellent coating that will temporarily help prevent soiling the car seat if the patient is incontinent. The Car Roller Sheet can be used in conjunction with a Slide Board by placing it in position and then putting the end of the slide board on top of the edge of the Car Roller Sheet.

What's the difference between the Car Seat Slide Pad, the Car Roller Sheet, and the Handi Soft Turn Pad?

All of these items are car seat turing aids used to help people get in and out of cars. By far the best one is the Car Seat Slide Pad because it slides the best when it has weight on it, and the top part can be placed in the edge of the seat. This is helpful because most people who have difficulty getting into cars tend to sit on the edge of the seat, not the middle. The Handi Soft Turn Pad can sometimes be a bit of a struggle to turn if the person does not sit in the centre of the Pad the first time they sit down when getting into the car. The Car Roller Sheet has more or less been superceeded by the Car Seat Slide Pad.
